Even if you are not a Millennial or Gen Z who is obsessed with technology, chances are there is an area of your day-to-day life driven by technology that you cannot imagine your life without. You might not be glued to Instagram and maybe don’t use “LOL” on the regular, but it’s hard to deny that technology has made a lot of things a whole lot easier. So, why is it that the world of scholarships is so stuck in the past in the world of paper, faxing, and snail mail? We think that it’s time for a change.
Below are a few examples of areas where we now find ourselves fully immersed in the digital world – some for the best, some…maybe not so much.
1. Let’s ask for directions
In my humble opinion, Google Maps is the single greatest thing to exist in this world. I have no sense of direction and if left alone with a paper map, I’m truthfully not sure where I’d be right now. The ability to monitor traffic and determine the fastest route is glorious, even if only to save 2 minutes.
2. Previously, on last week’s episode…
Streaming movies and TV episodes in the blink of an eye is something that many of us, myself included, probably take for granted. We are no longer prisoner to the TV set at 7pm on Tuesday to ensure we catch the latest episode of our favorite show. We have the ability to watch what we want, when we want, and where we want.
3. How can I help you today?
Does anyone like to go to the bank? I don’t think so. Do you still sometimes have to go to the bank? Yes. Has that dramatically decreased with online banking? Absolutely. Between direct deposit, mobile check deposit, and apps to check your balance, trips to the banks are becoming fewer and fewer. Plus, apps like PayPal and Venmo ensure that you are never chasing that one friend down who somehow never has cash.
4. Are you a tower? Because Eiffel for you.
Bumble, Hinge, Match, Tinder, Coffee Meets Bagel – the list goes on. If you’re not familiar with these things, good for you. Seriously. If you are familiar and have experienced them first hand, my thoughts are with you. While I’m not 100% sure these things have improved lives, they have certainly changed the dating world.
Chances are you agree that your life has been improved by at least one of the items above. Imagine what could happen if you applied digitization to your scholarship program. Sound intriguing? We’d love to work with you.
